The challenge

The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation and holds its annual meeting, bringing together global leaders from the public and private sectors, each January in Davos. The Forum engages with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, from its partners to its millions of followers across social media. The content always aims to communicate unique perspectives and solutions to the complex global issues we face today. A range of formats and approaches are needed to engage these diverse audiences.

With more than 200 live-streamed sessions, dozens of reports, and 100s of blogs published across the month, the Forum requires specialist, integrated support to leverage the conversations into high-quality, relatable, multi-platform content.

Operating at speed, with high-profile attendees and the world’s media in attendance, client knowledge and understanding, subject matter expertise and editorial rigour are vital to ensure successful coverage of the organization’s flagship event.

The solution:

Formative partners with the World Economic Forum providing on-the-ground and remote support across editorial and social media, with dedicated expertise to supplement and support existing internal teams.

Formative worked closely with the Forum’s internal teams to build a content strategy around the event, manage session coverage plans, and ensure appropriate resources were in place, both in Davos and back in the United Kingdom. We developed 6 key format tracks: Highlights blogs; Deep dives; Session summaries; Report blogs; Quote roundups; and Live social.

From January, the Formative team developed 6 thematic pillar deep dive articles, leveraging input from across the Forum, accompanied by our unique understanding of the audience. In addition, we contributed written content for flagship Forum reports and ghost-written thought leadership and social media copy for senior Forum leaders. All of this was accompanied by an ‘always-on’ social media strategy, ensuring effective distribution.

Once Davos started, the Formative teams supplied rapid, high-quality, written, and social media support, including news articles, session summaries, and daily and a week-long highlights blog.

To meet the needs of the client, Formative becomes an extension of the Forum’s internal teams, offering not just support on deliverables, but ongoing editorial and strategic advice. We work closely with the client to identify challenges ahead of time and provide ‘solutions-first’ input.
